Tax Calculation Methodology
Full transparency into our mathematical modeling, progressive bracket evaluation, social security caps, and currency conversion pipeline.
1. Progressive Income Tax Formula
Income tax is calculated progressively across statutory tax bands. For taxable income $Y$ after eligible allowances $A$:
Taxable Income = max(0, Gross Income - Standard Allowance)
Total Tax = Σ [ min(Band_High - Band_Low, max(0, Taxable - Band_Low)) × Rate ]
Total Tax = Σ [ min(Band_High - Band_Low, max(0, Taxable - Band_Low)) × Rate ]
2. Tax Freedom Day Algorithm
Tax Freedom Day illustrates what fraction of the year a citizen works exclusively to pay government taxes before retaining personal income:
Effective Tax Rate = (Total Income Tax + Social Contributions) / Gross Income
Tax Days Worked = Effective Tax Rate × 365
Tax Freedom Day = January 1 + Tax Days Worked
Tax Days Worked = Effective Tax Rate × 365
Tax Freedom Day = January 1 + Tax Days Worked
3. Real Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)
To compare living standards across different cost environments, nominal net income in USD is adjusted against a benchmark baseline using annual living cost indices (Numbeo basket of goods, rent, groceries, and utilities):
Benchmark Living Cost = $18,000 USD / year
Real Purchasing Power = Net Take-Home USD × (Benchmark Living Cost / Local Living Cost)
Real Purchasing Power = Net Take-Home USD × (Benchmark Living Cost / Local Living Cost)
